Following the military action in Venezuela overnight, President Trump appears to be pursuing an approach that involves the establishment of nation-building initiatives.
In a noteworthy press conference held at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Saturday morning, the president declared that US forces had successfully apprehended Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife in an overnight raid in Caracas.
Subsequently, Trump declared that a team comprising Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, in collaboration with Venezuelans, would assume control of the beleaguered nation, comments the BBC.
American led Venezuela: The president stated that the current administration will continue to oversee the nation’s affairs until a transition of power can be executed in a manner that is deemed secure, appropriate, and prudent.
The precise connotations of the phrase “running the country” remain ambiguous; nevertheless, the pledge signifies a precipitous shift in the president’s course, replete with contradictions and formidable challenges.

American led Venezuela: The president’s campaign was notable for its opposition to what he termed “forever wars,” sharp criticism of previous US attempts at regime change, and commitment to an “America first” foreign policy. Presently, the president is attempting to use his presidential power to successfully rebuild a South American nation whose economy is in shambles and whose political stability has been undermined by decades of dictatorship.
Nevertheless, Trump demonstrated an unwavering optimism.
He asserted that his administration boasts a “perfect track record of winning,” and that this would not deviate from the norm. He has committed to recruiting American energy companies to rebuild Venezuela’s deteriorating industrial infrastructure, allocating funds for American reconstruction efforts and benefiting Venezuelan citizens.
He did not preclude the possibility of deploying American soldiers to Venezuela to further these efforts. “We are not intimidated by the prospect of boots on the ground. In fact, we had boots on the ground last night,” he informed reporters.
Trump, a vocal critic of the US invasion of Iraq, will now be compelled to take note of the words of one of the American architects of the Iraq War, Secretary of State Colin Powell, who famously stated, “If you break it, you own it.” Read more here.
