Human Rights Tragedy in Libya, silence in the West – Linda Ulstein

Report TV: “We learn from the books about equality and freedom, but in reality we see totally the opposite in Libya. What is going on under the militia rule now is very inhuman,” says the President and Founder of the Norwegian Organization for Human Rights in Libya, Linda Ulstein Ait Arezki in this Herland Report show about the Human Rights Tragedy in Libya.

We focus on Libya in a series of programs, examining the period before 2011 when Libya was Africa’s richest country, the NATO war in 2011 and the present terror and militia rule.

Linda Ulstein Ait Arezki says: “The situation of the prisoners in Libya is very critical. We have all these organizations of human rights and the United Nations, still under the eyes of the West the Libyan prisoners are tortured, abused and killed.”

“I have contact with Libyan organizations, lawyers, the prisoners, the families and I see the videos. The truth and reality is not shown in the media, not on BBC, CNN, no media is talking about what is really going on inside prisons in Libya. Women, children and men are tortured with no mercy.”

“We see men go healthy into the prisons and come out heroin addicts. How can you get drugs inside a prison? We never ever heard about drugs the way we do now. Libya has become the best base for trading narcotics, for drugs, for illegal immigration, for selling women and men. Everything is legal in Libya, thanks to the bombarding of the NATO. ”

“I never saw in all my life, even as an activist helping the Palestinian camps, the Syrian case or Iraqi case, even the Yemeni case, I never see what I saw in the prisons in Libya. All thanks to the war lords that control Libya.”

“You have them in Misrata, Benghazi, Tripoli. The country is living in a big drama, not democracy, like NATO and Britain said they would bring to Libya.”
