Herland Report: What is the true significance of Christmas? Why have we celebrated a baby boy born in a manger in Bethlehem for two thousand years in the West?
Which values did the Middle Eastern philosopher, life coach and spiritual teacher, Jesus teach?
Many wonder why “Merry Christmas” now is rebranded “Happy Holidays.” It is because of the deep desire of the New Left elites to hide the spiritual connotations in the birth of Jesus.
They just hate the thought of the man who, more than any other individual shaped Western philosophy. His message of dignity to the poor, hope for the needy and the oppressed, love for the unloved, success for those who uphold justice, hope for those who suffer and help in the afterlife just does not resound in an age of atheist materialism.
The Liberal clampdown on the true meaning of Christmas has never been worse. In the ocean of gnomes, trolls, and secularized Walt Disney – Santa Clauses on their endless rides to and from the North Pole, no wonder many disconnects the celebration of Christmas with the birth of Jesus.
They just hate the thought of the man who, more than any other individual shaped Western philosophy. Merry Christmas, the significance of Christianity: Have the cultures before us denied the spiritual realm? They have all sought to give advice to man as to how he best can handle life’s problems and excel. The question of suffering and how to overcome the vices of men is central to the traditional religions.
Christianity teaches that God is at the heart of everything in the spiritual realm as well as in the physical. He is in the heavens above us, outside of the universe, yet at the same time as present as a man’s own breath, his force alive in all the living. He is present everywhere in the world.
This is the love story of God towards man, the Creator’s embrace of the created, the salvation for the fallen to rise up and be “lifted up so I can stand on mountains and walk on stormy seas,” as the famous song states.

It is the account of existential light pouring into the spiritual darkness of man, saving his soul. Yet, for this to happen, there needs to be an acknowledgement of the existence of the spiritual dimension.
Born in a manger, far from presidential palaces, the symbolism of Jesus Christ’s birth carries oceans of hope for those less fortunate.
And for the rich: he was worshipped by Eastern astrologers who found his star and brought their wealth to lay down at his feet. Kings and queens have since meditated at His altar, the poor, the desperate and desolate have found peace connecting to his eternal star.
The true message of Christmas transcends class, race, gender and cultures. This is the mystery of which the Eastern Orthodox Church speaks: “God cannot be grasped by the mind. If he could be grasped, he would not be God,” as stated by Evagrius of Pontus.
The founding father of what later became the largest religion in the world, the Eastern philosopher and spiritual icon, Jesus son of Mary, outlined the very solution to civil strife, division, and war. His simple message was “Love one Another.”
Love thy God and love thy neighbor. Do good to others. Live in such a way that you treat others with respect, give freely to those in need.
The idea is: “Be honest, honorable, honest, accountable, faithful. Keep the commandments and get a great life that prepares you for the afterlife, in which there will be a judgment on how you spent your short-lived days on this planet.”
The existential peace found in the metaphysical fellowship between God and man, described by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel in Rome as God touches the finger of Adam, becomes the very solution to this world’s problems.

We need the touch of God to transcend from darkness to light.
“Come to me all ye who are burdened, and I will give you rest,” speaks the Master Jesus. That rest – the peace not of this world – becomes a man’s source of new energy, of wisdom, understanding, perseverance and love for others.
Connected to God’s love, hatred becomes impossible. The very being of God is love. He Is Love. Wherever there is genuine love, God is. The battlefield against our demons happens in the mind, the very place where we choose our values and who to follow.
Merry Christmas, the significance of Christianity: Christianity is not foremost about how “I can be blessed and get rich”. In an age of endless materialism, some forget that the main commandment was not “love thyself”.
God is not a genie in a bottle that I can sway to do my will. Rather, I am to do His will embedded in a single word: love.
The call for loving your fellow man, suffering when he suffers, helping him the instant you find the means to, constantly looking for ways in which you can ease other’s pain – this is The Gospel.
St. Seraphim of Sarov, one of the Orthodox Fathers says: “When the Spirit of God descends upon a man and overshadows him with the fulness of his outpouring, then his soul overflows with a joy not to be described, for the Holy Spirit turns to joy whatever he touches. The kingdom of heaven is peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Acquire inward peace, and thousands around you will find salvation.”
While the Russians have turned away from atheist communism and increasingly embrace traditional values, religion, and capitalism, the United States is rapidly turning into a totalitarian Soviet Union. It is quite amazing.
The coin flipped. Over 80 % in the former atheist Soviet now believe in God, probably constituting the greatest revival of Christianity in our time, according to CS Monitor. In the East, they got tired of the communist state elite who controlled almost everything down to the shape of glasses that factories were allowed to produce.
Today Russia is a traditionalist, religion-friendly, Capitalist society that remembers its history and honors its historic heroes. Russia’s turn from Leninism to Christian Orthodoxy has largely happened under president Vladimir Putin.
Many do not comprehend to which degree many Russians hate the thought of returning to this atheist system of complete personal bondage.
In the U.S., very few are even aware of the massive revival that is happening in Russia as millions have turned to their cultural roots in Eastern Orthodoxy in the past years. The state has restored over 25 000 churches all over Russia, with Putin on repeated pilgrimages to Mount Athos in Greece.
Russia is far from perfect, still battling corruption, elitism, and its own vices. Yet, an address by President Vladimir Putin at the 2013 Valdai Summit, illustrates the million miles between the borderless relativism that most Western politicians seem to promote and the Russian way of thinking. Putin stated:
“The people in many European states are actually ashamed of their religious affiliations and are indeed frightened to speak about them. Christian holidays and celebrations are abolished or “neutrally” renamed as if one were ashamed of Christian holidays.
Merry Christmas, the significance of Christianity: With this method, one hides away the deeper moral values of these celebrations. And these countries try to force this model unto other countries, globally. I am deeply convinced that this is the direct way to the degradation and primitivization.
This leads to deeper demographic and moral crisis in the West. Lessons of history show that a civilization that has abandoned its moral ideals loses its spiritual strength.”
What the New Left ruling bourgeoisie fail to respect in the West, is that there are 2.3 billion Christians in the world. As we have seen, in Europe and the US, the numbers soar as high as 80 % who state that they are Christians, according to Pew Research Centre and others.
We are stranded, shoved into the corner, and ordered to say, “Happy Holidays”. As Dr. Paul Craig Roberts states, Americans are no longer allowed to practice Christmas outside their own homes. The vast majority of Americans have been shoved into the closet. Let us be rebels in the age of deafening conformity and hail the message of the birth of the little boy in Bethlehem. Merry, merry Christmas!
