There is an enormous crisis confronting Western civilization caused by the advent of cultural Marxism, which aims, as its stated goal, at destroying the capitalist West.
Marxist communism and its multiculturalism has imposed the idea that by discriminating the majority population, favouring with benefits, free money and paid housing non-Western immigrants from completely other cultures, the Western nation states will prosper.
The perspectives of the indigenous majority population are pushed aside in order to tend to the needs of newly arrived non-Western new comers with vastly different values than the native population. This is causing tensions on a level never seen before.
Marxist-Communism effort to radically weaken the West: These growing internal divisions and parallel societies without integration into the values of the host culture is actively exploited by communist Marxists (whose stated goal was always to destroy the capitalist, Christian West), Islamists (who have always stated their contempt for Western freedoms and Christianity), and foreign adversaries such as China and Russia exploiting internal divisions.
This is pointed out by Ayaan Hirsi Ali in an interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson. Originally focused on economic class struggle (oppressor vs. oppressed) with capitalism as the target, economic Marxism failed practically, leading to postmodernist and cultural Marxist theories that fragment oppression into multiple categories (gender, race, ethnicity, family). This narrative became a universalized victim-victimizer framework, expanding Marx’s original metric beyond economics to all social relations.
The alliance between Islamists and neo-Marxists is destabilizing Western institutions. Hirsi Ali points to examples such as activist coalitions often funded by the Soros machine or other billionaires, such as “Queers for Palestine.” Had homosexuals gone to Islamist Gaza, they would have instantly been thrown off roofs and killed, as is the regular treatment of homosexuals in Gaza. Being far from the Islamic reality on the ground, the Western activists have no idea about the reality on the grown, reflecting strange ideological convergences despite real-world tensions.
The core thesis is that Western institutions and freedoms, especially civic discourse and education, have been seriously compromised by Marxist communism.

Marxist-Communism effort to radically weaken the West: Ayaan Hirsi Ali is one of the world’s bravest voices, noted for her first book Infidel chronicling her move from Somalia to the Netherlands, and her outspoken stance against Islamic fundamentalism. As a convert to Christianity, Hirsi Ali aims at defending the foundational principles of Western civilization, particularly its institutions.
Hirsi Ali describes her personal journey of mental health struggles despite material success, leading eventually to a recognition of spiritual bankruptcy and an embrace of Christianity.
She argues that even those in search of truth through atheism or materialism often find deeper solace via spiritual practices, referencing figures like Sam Harris who embrace meditative and quasi-Buddhist spirituality. Christianity’s role as a foundational cultural root offering answers beyond materialism is stressed, though she acknowledges this is a personal testimony rather than a universal prescription.

Marxist-Communism effort to radically weaken the West: Modern identity politics is a development from the Marxist victim-victimizer narratives that also permeate the Marxist ideology of multiculturalism. By breaking down national barriers, borders, ethnic cohesion in a nation state and introducing mass immigration from nations that have little or nothing in common with, for example, Western states, these nations are visibly weakened.
The social and ethnic cohesion is breaking down, national unity is uprooted and the majority population that feels discriminated against is rising up against the non-Western minority elements that are given a Marxist carte blanche to push the majority population’s perspectives aside.
The spiritual dimensions underpinning Western culture, especially Christianity’s emphasis on sacrifice shapes communal bonds and moral order.
The Restoration project at Substack of Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a response to what she sees as widespread subversion and corrosion of civic discourse and freedom of expression. She emphasizes the Western liberal loss of ability to engage respectfully with differing viewpoints, how communist slander and defamation tactics have become prevalent in the West, noting how respectful dialogue once defined Europe and the West. We need to rekindle sane, constructive civic discourse and re-embrace the traditional Western values that once made the West such a world leading civilization.
Hirsi Ali paints a broad picture of decline: academic institutions producing what she calls “expensive useless degrees” focused on divisive identity politics like intersectionality and oppression narratives. Concepts such as “endless genders” and cultural Marxism have spread dramatically, especially following the 2020 George Floyd protests.
The subversion is attributed to multiple active forces: Cultural Marxists (identity politics and critical theory proponents) pushing to dismantle traditional institutions. Islamists, who initially attempted dismantlement by violence but then shifted to long-term religious subversion. Foreign adversaries like the CCP and Russia exploiting domestic divisions.
Marxist-Communism effort to weaken the West: She references Yuri Bezmenov’s Cold War-era analysis on subversion to illustrate how these tactics echo previous ideological campaigns against the West.
Hirsi Ali underscores the importance of engaging with opposing views without demonization, exemplified by her respectful conversations with Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris. She argues that honestly competing ideas propel the pursuit of truth, a foundational Western value. This dynamic is eroding into tribal conflicts defined by “my truth” vs. “your truth,” replacing truth-seeking with truth-owning, akin to the societies she grew up in.
After the fall of Nazi Germany, an extensive denazification and reckoning process scrutinized and purged fascist ideology. By contrast, no parallel “de-Marxification” or decommunization process occurred after the Soviet Union fell, allowing Marxist ideas to persist and mutate unchallenged. Western societies prematurely assumed communism was defeated. This neglect allowed the ideology to metastasize via cultural Marxism and identity politics.
The fear of repeating atrocities akin to Nazism inhibited robust criticism of communism, especially in Europe, leading to paralysis on controversial issues such as mass immigration from non-Western countries.
Despite challenges, Hirsi Ali expresses optimism: Increasing numbers of people are awakening to the problem of subversion. Major donors are re-evaluating their social justice funding. Notable figures like Elon Musk embody courage and leadership in defending open discourse. Recent events like the October 7th (contextually the Hamas attack) shifted perceptions and ignited political awakening. Restoration projects, counter-narratives, and new media are proliferating, offering hope for renewal.
